Recover Guyana's
Water Purification Systems & Sustainability Initiative for Secondary Schools

CLEAN WATER FOR ALL
The Water Purification Project at West Demerara Secondary School, an expansion of the award-winning SHOUT Initiative led by Recover Guyana, is a groundbreaking, technology-driven effort supported by the Greater Guyana Initiative. Originating from the winning SHOUT 2023 project by Vasanna Persaud at Queen’s College, this initiative brings safe, clean drinking water to over 850 students and staff through a fully automated system that includes sediment filtration, reverse osmosis, UV sterilization, and internal recycling. It promotes education by supporting science-based SBAs, empowers the school’s Environmental Club to lead sustainability efforts, provides short-term employment to local tradespeople, and advances Guyana’s national development and environmental goals by reducing plastic waste and saving schools significant annual costs.
