Recover Guyana and Youths on the Rise Guyana Unite for Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Tree-Wrapping Ceremony in Region Three
Leonora, Region Three, Guyana- Recover Guyana, in collaboration with Youths on the Rise Guyana, hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Tree-Wrapping Ceremony at Leonora Kowsilla Park, Region Three, bringing together community members and cancer survivors to raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, and show support for individuals currently fighting the disease and those who have survived it.

The initiative commenced at the Leonora Track and Field facility, with participants
walking to Kowsilla Park in a collective demonstration of solidarity, hope, and commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer. The activity underscored the importance of community involvement in promoting health education, encouraging early detection, and fostering a supportive environment for those affected by cancer.

A key highlight of the event was an interactive educational session featuring Dr. Elizabeth December, who shared valuable information on breast cancer awareness and demonstrated the importance of breast self-examination. The session provided participants with an opportunity to engage, ask questions, and gain practical knowledge about recognizing potential warning signs and taking proactive steps towards their health.

The programme also created a meaningful space for cancer survivors to share their personal journeys, offering messages of courage, resilience, and hope. Their testimonies served as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection, access to support, and standing alongside individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis.

As part of the observance, trees at Kowsilla Park were wrapped in recognition of breast cancer awareness, symbolizing remembrance, solidarity, and the collective commitment to supporting those affected by the disease. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of tokens to cancer survivors as a gesture of appreciation, encouragement, and support in recognition of their strength and resilience.

Through this collaborative initiative, Recover and Youths on the Rise Guyana reaffirmed the importance of community partnerships in advancing public awareness, promoting health education, and creating spaces where survivors feel recognized, valued, and supported.
Both organizations encourage members of the public to remain informed about breast cancer, prioritize regular health checks, seek medical advice when concerns arise, and extend compassion and support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
